Stan Lee Has A New Show

Variety is reporting that Stan "The Man" Lee is working with Showtime to produce a new, hour long show about a gay superhero.

The project is being exec produced by Lee and the president and CEO of his Pow! Entertainment banner, Gill Champion.

The story, which focuses on an up-and-coming superhero who struggles to hide his secret identities, is based on the book "Hero" by Perry Moore.

Moore is penning the script and also exec producing along with Hunter Hill.

Before I lambast this news, let me preface it by saying that I have absolutely nothing against gay people.  I see nothing inherently wrong about having a show about a gay superhero.  However, I do have good reasons to doubt the watchability of any show produced by Stan Lee and his Pow! Entertainment company.

Yes, I know that stan Lee is responsible for creating about 90% of the comics I grew up reading and loving, but let's be honest here...no new characters he's created or shows he's worked on have been any good since the 1970's.  Do I need to really remind you of the shows his company Pow! Entertainment have produced?  First there was the animated show Stripperella starring the voice of Pamela Anderson as a stripper/superhero.  The show was so bad I couldn't even find any youtube clips of it to link to, so instead all you get is the Wikipedia page.  Then there was Who Wants To Be A Superhero, which was horrible even by shitty reality TV standards.

Aside from a small part in Mallrats, and tiny cameos in all of the Marvel movies, Stan Lee really hasn't really done anything of any worth since the dawn of the 1980's.  Why can't he just retire from making new products and just become a figurehead for Marvel Comics?  He'd be like the Queen of England, a symbolic leader with no real power.  Stan is loved the world over, making him the head of public relations for Marvel would be a perfect fit.  Just please, dear god, stop letting him make new crappy shows.

Sure, the showtime show might turn out to be good, but the last 20 years or so of his track record tell me otherwise.
