Haaaaaave You Met Ted?

Ok, so this isn't necessarily what would be considered a usual geeky thing, but it's something I am totally geeking out about, and this is my site, so you're just going to have to deal with it.

The CBS show How I Met Your Mother is coming back for its new season next Monday (September 22nd).  If you haven't watched this show yet, you really should give it a look.  I know, I know.  It's a cheesy network sitcom, right?  Well, technically, yes.  But it's a really really good one, and it has a number of elements in it that geeks can appreciate.

  • Neil Patrick Harris is in it.

  • So is Allison Hannigan (Willow from Buffy The Vampire Slayer)

  • The characters are basically big geeks themselves.

  • Marshall is deathly afraid of Sasquatch and the Loch Ness Monster.

  • They take Wii Tennis very seriously.

  • A fight was once settled with a sword duel.

  • There have been a number of cameos from people from other shows like Freaks and Geeks and Scrubs.

  • Wayne Brady plays NPH's gay brother.

  • Two words...Slap Bet!

The show is about a guy named Ted Mosby.  He's an architect who lives in New York City with his best friend Marshall and Marshall's girlfriend/wife Lilly (Allison Hannigan).  They're all in their late 20's and they usually spend most of their time hanging in the bar downstairs from their apartment.  Neil Patrick Harris plays their friend Barney Stinson.  He's really the one who steals the show as his character is one of the funniest you'll find on TV.  He's a crass, womanizing, die hard capitalist, and he absolutely loves how awesome his life is.

The character of Barney actually even has his own blog that can be read here.  It's a fun read where you can find such gems as this, a chart explaining how the more serious a relationship is, the more lame it is.
