Getting Sued By The RIAA? Just Blame Your Neighbors

Is the RIAA suing you for pirating songs from the internet?  Worried that you're facing massive fines or possible jail time for downloading your favorite MP3's?  Don't worry, just blame your neighbors.  That's what one couple did, and it seems to work.

A couple of accused file-sharers in Denmark got off out of a legal jam with a clever defense -- and it worked. The accused music pirates argued that the files that were illegally obtained were downloaded by WiFi thieves, according to TorrentFreak.

The defense worked because the burden of proof rests on the plaintiff and not the defendant, according to a lawyer quoted in the reports.

Of course, I would assume that for this arguement to work you'd have to have an unsecured network.  Otherwise they could argue that the neighbors didn't have access to your IP address.  But hey, here's a possible defense to help beat those bastards at the RIAA!

Viva La Piracy!
