The Rich...You Know Why They're So Weird? Because They Can Afford To Be.

How would you like to own the actual lightsaber handle used by Mark Hamill in the making of The Empire Strikes Back?  Or How about Batman's Cowl from Batman Begins, the one actually worn by Christian Bale?  Or maybe you'd prefer a life-size Martian from Tim Burton's film Mars Attacks!

Well, if you've got a lot of disposable income (and I mean A LOT of it) then you could procure some of these geek trophies to put on display in your home.  The auction house Profiles in History is hosting what can only be seen as the greatest geek auction of all time.  Some amazing props from some of the most loved geek films ever are being put up for sale, but you'd better have a ton of free cash to get some of these things.  Luke's lightsaber has a starting price of $175,000.  Batman's cowl is starting at $20,000 and the Martian is selling for $30,000.

Other items going up for sale include:

  • Marlon Brando's Jor-El costume from Superman ($40,000)

  • The C-3PO head worn by Anthony Daniels in Return of the Jedi ($70,000)

  • An original Gorn costume from the classic Star Trek TV Series ($11,000)

  • Wolverine's black leather suit from the first X-Men movie ($70,000)

  • Arnold Schwarzenegger's costume from T2: Judgement Day ($25,000)

Or there's my personal favorite on the list, an original first edition set of all three Lord of the Rings novels with elvish inscriptions that are all signed by JRR Tolkien.  Those are going for $100,000.

The Bidding begins this thursday at 12pm Pacific Standard Time.  I'd love to buy some of the the items that are up for sale here, but I'm a tad strapped for cash at the moment.  If any of you kind souls would care to buy me any of this stuff  (especially the lightsaber or the books) and give them to me as a christmas gift, I'd be very grateful indeed.  I'd even grant you a contributing editor position here at Geek-tastic for life.
