A New "Hitchhiker's Guide" Book Is Being Written, Nevermind The Fact That Douglas Adams Is Dead

God Help us all.  In what can only be truly seen as a shameless attempt to cash in on a well known and popular book series, it looks like another book in the Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy series is being written, despite the fact its creator Douglas Adams died back in 2001.

The author’s widow, Jane Belson, has given her approval to a plan by Penguin to resurrect [Arthur] Dent in a sixth book, entitled And Another Thing...

The novel will be written by Eoin Colfer, known for Artemis Fowl, the best-selling titles about a teenage criminal mastermind who wreaks havoc in this world and the next. The publisher is anticipating a bestseller.

I can't say I've ever heard of Eoin Colfer before, so I have no idea if he's a good author or not.  But I can pretty much guarantee he's no Douglas Adams.  Adams was a rare individual indeed, and any attempt to try to copy that style of dry humor will most likely end coming off as lame.  Why would they do this?  Why can't they just let a good thing rest?

Adams’ Hitchhiker books have sold around 16 million copies and been translated into 35 languages.

Oh yeah, that's why.  They have made a lot of money.  And like everything else in the entertainment world, if it sells, they'll keep making more.  Shame of Adams' widow.  How could she approve of such a blatant attempt to make more money off of her dead husband's good name?

This news both saddens and angers me.  I hope the book is a resounding failure.  Don't Panic...my ass!
