The good folks over at ugo.com have put together a nice little list of the 50 Hottest Women in Sci-fi. Let's be honest here, most (but definitely not all) sci-fi fans are guys. And as guys, we love good looking ladies. So a list like this is a given.
I do have some comments on the list though. We could argue for hours over the order of most of the women on the list, but I think most of us will agree that as awesome as Princess Leia is, she doesn't deserve to be #1. There are a ton of women in the 30's and 40's on this list that I believe are hotter than Leia ever was. And what's up with Milla Jovovich not making it into the top 10 for Fifth Element? That's just wrong. And I've also never liked it when cartoon women are included in a list like this. Sure Samus Aran and Faye Valentine are hotties, but until they are played by real flesh and blood actresses, they don't count.
On the plus side, it was nice to see Jadzia Dax make it into the top five. She deserves to be there. Having Number Six from Battlestar be #6 on the list is amusing, and warranted. Also, the nod to Jet Girl was cool too.
What do you think of the list?
I love the idea of Xenia Seeberg (#43) playing Harley Quinn - I think she could definitely pull it off. Although she'd have to lose the German accent which is one of her aspects I happen to like. Some of their other choices were completely out to lunch. How can you put Carrie-Anne Moss ahead of Jolene Blalock! But at least now I have a reason to watch the Starship Troopers three-quel. Plus, given some of their other obscure choices, I think they could have had a few more live-action women to replace some of the animated ones:
ReplyDelete- Ellen Barkin as Penny Priddy in Buckaroo Banzai (a good damsel in distress, think of the torture scene)
- Nicole De Boer as Joan in Cube (irrepressibly cute)
- Diane Lane as Judge Hershey in Judge Dredd (for the women in uniform angle)
- Sandra Bullock as Lenina Huxley in Demolition Man (she'd be in there somewhere)
- and the most egregious omission of theirs, Kate Beckinsale as Selene in Underworld OR as Anna Valerios in Van Helsing (the best part of either movie!)
