The Buffy cartoon makes me sad
So back in 2001, there was apparently an attempt to get a Buffy The Vampire Slayer animated series off of the ground. The only thing that came of it though was this 3 minute and 36 second clip. It's basically just a snippet so that Joss Whedon could try to sell the show to the networks, and obviously the show never got picked up.
The video really makes me sad. Mainly, I'm sad because the clip above is so damn awesome. In just under four minutes you can see how perfectly the animation captures the feel of the early seasons of the show. It also makes me sad because I really miss the banter between the characters that Buffy was so famous for. No shows out there right now really have such great exchanges between characters.
I guess I can understand why they didn't make the show at the time. Buffy, being awesome and all, wasn't exactly a ratings blockbuster. So making an animated spinoff for a niche show wouldn't make a lot of sense. But nowadays, with Buffy's cult status solidified, and rabid fans eagerly buying any new Buffy related material, I think it would be a perfect time to start such a show. But instead of the show covering early season stuff like this clip shows, have the series be a continuation of the live action series. I'd love to see an animated version of the season 8 comic series, and I'm fairly certain I'm not the only one.
But alas, the chances of such a thing happening are pretty much zero, so the above clip is all we will most likely ever see. So watch it and join me in my sorrow.
