When Firefly Meets Halo

The folks who work for Bungie must all be Browncoats, because they sure do seem to love the cast of Firefly.

First it was Halo 3, in which many of the cast members of the show lent their voices to be random background UNSC Marines who helped Master Chief on his quest to kill every single alien that ever existed. Now they've gone even farther and have basically created what can best be described as a fanboy wet dream combo of Halo and Firefly.

Let me present to you the new trailer for Halo: ODST. ODST is a new game coming out soon for the Xbox 360 which is a squad based shooter game in which players take on the roles of Orbital Drop Shock Troops (ODST) who have been assigned the task of eliminating a Covenant Crusier that has come to earth and is hovering over a city in Africa. The game takes place during the Halo 3 timeline, but this time around you don't have the luck of being a super powered Spartan soldier like the Master Chief. You're going to have to work together with your squadmates and think a lot more about strategy to get through this game alive.

Recognize that voice doing the narration for the trailer? That's Nathan Fillion, Captain Malcolm Reynolds himself, who's the squad commander in ODST. I don't know about you, but I could listen to that man talking about guns and aliens and combat all day long. Be sure to also pay attention to the other voices you hear in this trailer. Also in the squad are Adam Baldwin (Jane) and Alan Tudyk (Wash).

You'll have to excuse me, I think I just wet myself due to my sudden excitement.

I was already planning on buying ODST anyways just because I'm a big fan of the Halo games, but now that they've turned the game into a sort of Firefly love note, complete with Nathan Fillion's face being digitally inserted into the game for his character, this just shot up to the top of my must buy list. Everything else is secondary the day this thing comes out.

There's no word yet on whether any other cool sci-fi franchise actors will be appearing in the game, but Halo 3 did have Katee Sackhoff from Battlestar Galactica make an appearance, so one can hope, right?
