New Geek DVD Day - 10/14/08
The Good: The Ultimate Matrix Collection (Blu-ray)
Why It's Good: As Neo would say, "Woah". It's all three Matrix films, plus the Animatrix, plus tons of special features. And all if it in high definition. I loved the first Matrix film, and I loved about half of the second Matrix film. The third film...well...let's not talk about that one, shall we. But the Animatrix was awesome. So in this box set you're getting one and a half really good movies, and one and a half movies that suck, plus the animatrix. So two and a half good movies makes this worth it I guess. Just seeing the freeway fight scenes from the second film in high def would be nice.
The Badass: Dance of the Dead
Why It's Badass: Ok, so I haven't seen this one just yet, but I really really want to. It's a zombie film that takes place on prom night. The heroes are a bunch of social misfits and geeks, it looks to be pretty low budget, and the trailer looks frakkin' awesome. If anything, I want to see it just for the one line in the trailer, "We're the sci-fi club. We're here to rescue you." Something tells me I'm going to love this film.
The Awesome: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
Why It's Awesome: Ok, yes this film had it's problems. It nuked the fridge, it had Shia La Beef swinging from vines Tarzan style, it had stupid monkeys and CG groundhogs for no apparent reason. It even had UFO's and aliens. Admittedly, there's a lot to not like about this film. BUt it also had Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones. It had the return of Marion Ravenwood. It had some fun moments and some decent fight scenes. It even had a reference to the Young Indiana Jones series. It deserves its place here at The Awesome spot this week. Lots of people loved this film. I may disagree with them on many points, but Indy is universally loved (and for good reason). So he will always earn this spot when a new DVD comes out, no matter how bad the film was.
