How Does Dr. Manhattan Get That Nice Blue Glow?
The answer, lots and lots and lots of blue LED's. Yahoo videos has a great clip up showing behind the scenes footage from the set of the Watchmen movie that explains just how they got the special effects for Dr. Manhattan to work. Unfortunately, the video isn't embeddable, so you're going to have to go here to watch it.
It's pretty crazy what they had to do to get the effects to work. Actor Billy Crudup had to wear a full covering suit that has blue LED lights on just about every possible inch of the suit. It even has lights on the bottoms of his feet. It's pretty ingenious though. By using the lights, Billy actually gives off a faint blue glow that lights up the other actors and sets around him. So even when he get's CG'd over, his glow is still real.
