Clone Wars Is Super Popular.....No One Is Suprised

It looks like the new Clone Wars series is a smash hit in the ratings.  It became Cartoon Network's highest rated premiere ever.  And it seems to have been watched by just about every kid in existence.

Cartoon said the "Star Wars" spinoff ranked as the No. 1 channel among all major kids networks in the time slot among total viewers as well as in the key youth demos of kids 2-11 (1.8 million), kids 6-11 (1.4 million) and tweens 9-14 (1.2 million, the largest in the demo for any premiere telecast of an original Cartoon series).

I guess this makes sense.  It is supposed to be a kids show, after all.  What I want to know though is how many adults watched it.  And how many will continue to watch it as the show goes on.

I watched the two episodes on Friday night (it's extremely rare for me to watch live TV, by the way) and I wasn't horribly impressed with the show.  It wasn't horrible, but it wasn't great either.  I actually sort of felt the same way that I did about the Clone Wars movie.  I think the show looks amazing, and the action sequences are brilliant.  But the dialogue is pretty crappy, and the plots are all extremely basic.

My biggest complaint about the show is the sheer stupidness of the droids.  Whenever they speak I want to stab myself in the face, that's how bad I can't stand them.  I honestly don't get how a show can go for such stupid slapstick humor while at the same time show you clone soldiers being brutually murdered by these same droids in the same episode.  The droids were literally cracking jokes while they were cutting into an escape pod so they could kill the occupants.

Regularly, I'd find that sort of thing amusing, but the way it was done just felt wrong.  The droids weren't intentionally making jokes about what they were doing, they were going about their work so stupidly that they were supposed to be funny.  The result was me being thoroughly confused.

Overall, I like the show and will continue to watch it.  But each episode seems to have some moment in it that just makes me cringe.  And next week's episode is supposed to have Jar Jar Binks in it.

If that last sentence doesn't scare you, nothing will.
