New Geek DVD Day - 02/03/09

 Friday the 13th Uncut [Blu-ray]

The GoodFriday The 13th Uncut - On Blu Ray

Why It's Good:  It's Jason Vorhees killing drunk and horny teenagers.  That always makes for a good time, am I right?  Plus, an uncut version of the film is finally being released on DVD which includes some additional gore scenes that haven't been included in previous releases of the films.  And . . . . the film is coming out on Blu-ray, which means you can now watch the glorious slaughter of young adults in proper HD.  Watch as poor Kevin Bacon takes an arrow through the throat and bleeds to death in true high definition glory.

And it is totally not my fault if I just spoiled Mr. Bacon's death scene for you.  The film is 29 years old for god's sake.  If you haven't seen it by now, then it's not my fault you're culturally behind.

Zack and Miri Make a Porno

The BadassZack and Miri make a Porno

Why It's Badass:  Kevin Smith's latest comedy stars Seth Rogen and Elizabeth as friends who decide to make a porn film in order to make money.  The film has been mired in controversy simply because it has the word Porn in the title, but that's just because American is a puritan country that just needs to get over itself and learn to be able to laugh at boobs and penises like the rest of the world does.

The film is along the same lines of humor as Smith's other films, so if you're a fan of Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma or Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back then chances are you'll like this film too.

Friday the 13th, Part 3 3-D

The AwesomeFriday The 13th Part 3 - In 3D

Why It's Awesome:  What's better than watching Jason kill a bunch of drunk and horny teenagers?  Watching him kill drunk and horny teenagers in 3D!!!

For the first time ever on DVD, Friday The 13th Part 3 has finally been released in the original format it was intended to be seen in . . . . 3D.  A note of caution though.  Reviews of the DVD note that the 3D used for the DVD is the classic red and blue glasses style 3D that we're all familiar with.  The new and fancy 3D style that doesn't mess up the color scheme of films is unfortunately not what fans will get to see here which is a totally lame move if you ask me.

With the recent release of My Bloody Valentine in 3D in theaters and the new remake of Friday The 13th coming out in theaters next week, now would have been the perfect time to release a newly remastered version of this film with the 3D effects upgraded to the current movie standards.

Whatever though, I'm just stoked I'll finally get to see this film in 3D, the way it was meant to be seen.
