Oh god, Sony is making a Venom movie. Prepare for the suckfest.

Hollywoodreporter.com has an article up discussing how Sony pictures is in the process of developing a movie about Venom, the Spider-man villain.

Here's a quote from the article: "The studio is developing the project, based on the gooey nemesis who appeared in "Spider-Man 3" and is hoping the character could serve as an antidote to the aging "Spider-Man" franchise in the way that Fox has used Wolverine to add longevity to its "X-Men" franchise."

Now, for those of us who read comics, and who saw Spider-man 3, we are already fully aware of how crappily the character of Venom was treated in that film. Eddie Brock went from being a big muscley tough guy to Topher Grace, a skinny and whinny little guy. But get this, chances are they won't even use Topher Grace in the film: "In "Spider-Man 3," Venom is essentially a parasite that attaches itself to a host via a sticky substance that then gives the host special powers. The fact that it is a substance rather than a character could give Sony leeway to cast a new actor."

So there's a good chance the Venom movie won't even be about Eddie Brock. How in the name of God is that possible.

After the travesty that was Spider Man 3, I'd already given up hoping for more decent Spidey films. This news just makes me realize that even the possibility of hope is gone now too.
