Will all be well in the Magical Kingdom?

epic-mickey-looking-more-real-more-amazing

Now that some of the hype has finally died down on why it is bad that Disney bought Marvel, here is something I've seen that I wanted to share the news about.

This is concept art, not some spoof . That's the Mickey water tower on the head of Monstro. And a lot more fucked up looking buildings in his tow. Now why does it look like that? Because it is concept art for a game called Epic Mickey. It supposed to take place in a dystopian future with a heavy steam punk element.

Now what mad madness could think up this idea? His name is Warren Spector. Those that don't know, he is a video game designer of the Thief series, Ultima Underworld I & II and Deus Ex & Deus Ex: Invisible War. All good games in my opinion, especially Deus Ex.

Now he is on point with a full on Disney themed game that looks to be as dark as Maleficent's coat. What I'm trying to say is, maybe Disney has already started to realize "Some of our die hard fans aren't ages 4-10 anymore, they are the ones bringing the kids of that age". I really can't see a song and dance number breaking out on Monstro's back when he's carrying the shambled remains of the Epcot Center. Well I hope not of course.

Since Disney bought Warren Spector's company back in 2007, Junction Point Studios, this put a great mind in the fold of a company that does squeeze blood from stones. According to wiki there was already a job listing for his company back in 2005 that called for artists for a game that has "classic Hollywood cartoons" featuring "cartoon mice, cats and wabbits". The game was slated to run on the Valve engine, which is games like Half-Life and the Orange Box set. Which can run in either first person or third person. And the design is supposed to be released as an exclusive on the Wii. Now you have a general idea of what could hopefully be done in the future of Disney.

Now why bring it up in the midst of this Disney/Marvel merger? Here's the circle of life...

Warren Spector had also worked on the Marvel Super Heroes pen & paper RPG back in 1984, to which I was a proud owner of.

The idea that a mind like this also possibly backing Marvel video games, really does bring me hope to the future of this merger.

Just a few more art pieces to tickle your fancy:horrormickey_606

Edit:
I found another concept art, which raises my suspision. Look at it, tell me what you see
4a724a887b7db_featured_without_text_the_land_of_tomorrow
yes it is the space rocket from the Land of Tomorrow, but on the rocket itself is Oswald the Rabbit, not Mickey. Oswald the Lucky Rabbit was a Mintz created character for Disney who hasn't seen the light of day since the near 1930's when the animated features were distributed by Universal Pictures.
After that time, Mickey replaced Oswald...
These are some drastic changes. I really hope to have more news to report on in the future. Im definitely keeping my eye on this

The Return Of Friday Happy Hour

It's only a matter of time really

It's been a few weeks since I've posted a Friday Happy Hour installment, and for that I am sorry.  I did promise a while back though that this feature was still going to be a part of this site, and I don't mean to disappoint.  I know it's taken a while, but here we finally are with yet another wonderful recipe to help you enjoy your weekend.

This week's drink recipe was chosen in honor of the biggest geek news that's happened in quite a while.  I'm speaking of course of the purchase of Marvel Comics by the Walt Disney Company.  If there was any one bit of nerd news that made geeks all over the world suddenly feel like they needed a stiff drink, it was that one.  So, to commemorate this historic event, I offer you the following tasty beverage.

The Mickey Mouse

Recipe:

  • 2 oz Vodka

  • 3 oz Tomato Juice

  • 1 dash Lemon Juice

  • 1/2 tsb Worcestershire Sauce

  • 2-3 drops Tabasco Sauce

  • 1 Wedge Lemon

Mixing Instructions:

  • Shake all ingredients (except lime wedge) with ice

  • Strain into an old-fashioned glass over ice cubes

  • Add salt and pepper to taste

  • Add the wedge of lime

  • Serve

Mattman's 100% Spoiler FILLED Movie Review- Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

revenge

Don't like having a movie spoiled for you? THEN DON'T READ BEYOND THIS POINT! Honestly, the film Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen has been out for almost 3 months. So if you haven't already seen it too fucking bad. It's been out long enough. You had your chance. Why am I reviewing it now? Simple. I just saw it. Why? Because I knew it was going to be a turd. This is why I waited for it to come to the discount cinema. In my hometown we have one of those cheap theaters that debuts pictures roughly about a month before they are released on DVD and you can see it on the big screen for about 4 bucks. Not bad if you refuse to pay full price for a film you feel may suck a bit.

Let me tell you though. No amount of reviews, previews or general word of mouth could prepare me for what a turd this fucking god awful waste of film was. WOW. Just, WOW. I'll be honest I did enjoy the first film for what it was. Okay so it was directed by Michael "all style, no substance" Bay and it had barely recognizable versions of robots from my childhood in a soulless, shallow and ultimately flat multi-million dollar blow-em up film. However the first Transformers was an enjoyable dumb popcorn film that mildly amused me.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen happens to be one of the worst films I have ever seen and I've seen a lot of turds in my time. I'll have to say that the film did have some pretty bad reviews but in my opinion everything I've heard, seen or read was far too forgiving. For all of the geeks of the world that slammed X-Men Origins: Wolverine, X-Men: The Last Stand, Spider-Man 3, Hulk, Daredevil, and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen makes all of those films look like The Godfather II in comparison.I can't believe that I just wasted two and a half hours of my life and three dollars and seventy five cents of my hard-earned money. As far as films that Hollywood has dropped nearly half a billion dollars into making, this film goes right up there with Batman: Forever, Batman and Robin and Van Helsing in terms of "What the fuck were they thinking ?".

Let's start with the robots. If you thought the robots in the first film looked nothing like the Transformers that you collected as a child, then this film will shatter your perceptions of just how awful they can make those beloved toys of our youth look. They look terrible. Each robot has thousands upon thousands of complicated joints and parts thrown onto their bodies for no apparent reason whatsoever. In fact if the reason for making the robots so overly complicated was to make me confused as to who the robots were or who they were fighting: Mission Accomplished. I never claimed to be the biggest Transformers fan but, I still know more than the average bear and there were dozens of faceless robots that I couldn't pick out of a line-up. Starscream for starters (who I had no idea had survived the last film) was turned into a terrible version of Igor, Jetfire was a old aging robot (and god help me I'm not making this up) with a cane, and an Italian stereotype nameless Decepticon RC Car. Don't even get me started on "the twins". Two robots that began the film as an Ice Cream Truck that could split into two of the most annoying characters imaginable. The twins would later take on the form of two separate compact cars (obviously Chevy's poor-attempt at plugging their latest models) and become yet even more annoying. It was a duo that would give Jar Jar Binks a run for his money. They were terrible African-American Stereotypes, one even sported a gold tooth. God forgive me. I'm not making this up. Where is the ACLU when you need them?

The human characters were, if you can believe it, yet even more irritating and I found myself praying to every known Deity that they would be killed swiftly and with brutal force, because this was the only possible way I could even begin to fathom enjoying this train-wreck of a film. I hate Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox and I would give any worldly possession to ensure that I never have to see or hear them ever again. Their story is stupid. In fact it insults the intelligence of every human being young and old that paid for this piece of shit. Fuck Michael Bay, fuck him till he dies. Holy shit I can't believe I just saw what I saw. They could have left the human characters out of the film entirely and we would have saved at least and hour of our misery. Their presence had no point. After about 45 minutes the film just stopped making sense. So apparently in a story that is a full of holes and a whole fucking hell of a lot like the first one just slightly changed, these fucking waste of Hollywood talent characters are tied into the film.

Transformers have been on the earth for a long time we know this because Sam's Grandfather found Megatron like what 50 years or more before the events of the first film. Well get this they been around a lot longer and they even helped create the pyramids! Whoppity fucking shit! Anybody else tired of that old fucking story? In the first film they are after the All-Spark Cube now they are after the Matrix! Which might as well be the same fucking thing. It's like they paid a script writer countless amounts of money to re-write the same fucking movie. Worked the first time, right? Why not insult us all and try it again?

Even the action is boring. I spent an entire 2 & 1/2 hours completely confused as to what was even taking place in front of my eyes on a giant screen I was pointed at in a darkened room. The film's action was wild and erratic with more pointless explosions than Rambo 2 and 3 combined. Except unlike those aforementioned Rambo films that were awful in a fun way this film was not. Let's not forget that half the time I was confused to if I was watching a movie about transforming robots or a recruitment film for the United States Military.

I honestly can't say enough bad things about this film. There isn't one single redeemable quality in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. If the word of mouth and reviews are any indication then G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra (which I was also waiting to go to the discount theater) is far worse. I can't even begin to imagine this. I think I would surely kill myself if I was forced to watch such an awful film. Not to mention one based on a beloved childhood memory. I honestly just can't watch another favorite being ruined in front of me. At this rate I'm not sure I'll ever see G.I. Joe.

Fuck you Michael Bay. I hope you die.

Love,

Relationship Advice From A Turtle

So true, so true.

This is quite pssibly the greatest sticker of all time.  Not only is it a cool Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle sticker featuring the classic animated versions of the turtles, but it is also sound relationship advice to all you fellas out there.

Take it from the Turtles gentlemen.  They know what they're talking about.  Afterall, just look at them.  They're creepy mutated reptiles, but they've scored a hot brunette news reporter who's fond of wearing skintight jumpsuits.

I've always wondered what it was that April O'Neal saw in the Turtles.  Now I know.

I'll never look at that show the same way again.

The First Annual W00tstock is Coming

I have only one thing to say to this. W00t!!!

Attention All Geeks in the Los Angeles and San Francisco areas, an amazing event is coming your way.  A tremendous blending of music, geekiness and entertainment like none the world has ever seen before.  It is called W00tstock, and it will rock.

There will be music, there will be readings from books, there will be short films shown and there will be special suprise guests.  The show is being hosted by Adam Savage (the dude from Mythbusters without the crazy mustache and the beret), Wil Wheaton (if you don't know who Wil Wheaton is, you are not a geek and should leave this site right now) and the musical duo known as Paul and Storm.

For decades, geeks were ostracized, picked on, laughed at and punished by the sun’s harmful UV rays. But there is only so long that a people can be kept down before they rise up against their oppressors; and, indeed, the dawn of the 21st century has seen the ascendancy of geeks and geek culture.

As you can see from the image above, the events are taking place in late October.  We here at Geek-tastic will do our best to attend one of the events if we can scrounge up some extra spending cash soon.  Purchasing tickets to Star Wars in Concert and The Pee Wee Herman show has sort of tapped out Geek-tastic's annual budget of about $7.34.  If we can get to the show, we'll cover the event to the best of our ability.  We'll also be keeping an eye on this event as further news develops.

Random Awesomeness

Stopping crime by being so adorable.

The mighty Iron Horse, faithful animal companion to Tony Stark.  No, this isn't concept art for the now Disney owned Iron Man 2 film (Disney does love their animal companions in films though).  This is a cool DeviantArt piece.

Don't be suprised though if Disney execs find this little gem and get inspired by it to make some changes to the forthcoming Avengers film and the inevitable Iron Man 3: Voyage To Dream Valley.

Geek Item Of The Week - 09/01/09

I'm getting hungry just looking at that green gummi goodness.

The Five Pound Gummy Bear

Behold the glory that is five whole pounds of Gummi Beary Goodness!  It is truly the Godzilla of the Gummi Bear world.

This gigantic Gummi will cost you $40, but that's totally a bargain when you consider that it is the equivalent of 1,400 normal sized Gummi Bears.  For god's sake, the thing packs an amazing calorie count of 12,600 calories!!!  If you want to gain weight super fast, you'd better buy two of them.

Currently, the Gummi's are only available in the color Green.  The Blue and the Red ones are currently sold out, but that's fine because anyone with taste knows that the Green are the best of the bunch anyways.

Just imagine the joy of getting to bite off this guy's tasty green ears, or ripping off one of his limbs to give to your friends.

In fact, I like this bear so much, I'll even create a contest for it.  I'll give away a free Geek-tastic t-shirt to the first person who sends me a video of them personally eating a whole five pound bear in one sitting.
