One More Tiny Bit Of Watchmen News
Sorry for all the Watchmen posts today.
In Watchmen related news, the MPAA has announced that the animated DVD of Tales of the Black Freighter will be given an R rating for "violent and grisly images". For those of you who haven't read the Watchmen, the Tales of the Black Freighter is sort of a story-within-a-story subplot that takes place in the Watchmen comic books. It's about a survivor of a pirate attack who finds himself marooned on a desert island. Fearing that the pirates who destroyed his ship, the dreaded Black Freighter, is headed towards his hometown where they will most likely burn the place down and kill his wife and kids, the sailor is forced to create a raft out of the dead bodies of his former shipmates so he can attempt to make it to the town first to warn them of the impending attack.
While not being included in the Watchmen movie itself, it was announced a while back that the tales of the Black Freighter story would be released as a separate animated DVD movie that people could buy alongside the release of the Watchmen movie in theaters. The story is incredibly dark and bloody, so hearing that the MPAA has given the animated film an R rating is really good news. This means that they haven't pulled any punches and the animated movie is going to be every bit as dark and messed up as the original story was.
This makes me happy.
