Soundwave To Sound A-OK In Transformers 2

soundwave

Here's a bit of good news which should make fans of the Transformers happy.

It looks like Michael Bay is doing something really smart and is actually trying to get the original guy who provided the voice for Soundwave in the cartoon series to do the voice work for the character in Transformers 2.  The actor's name is Frank Welkner, and in case you don't remember, he sounded like this.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen director Michael Bay told fans on his official message board that he was going to go after original Transformers voice actor Frank Welker to play the role of Soundwave.

"I think I'm going to pursue Frank on Soundwave," Bay posted in response to fans who implored Bay to consider casting Welker.

This is great news for fans of the character.  In the first Transformers movie, Bay had at least enough sense to cast Peter Cullen as the voice of Optimus Prime and the fans loved it.  Now, another fan favorite character is going to sound exactly like he should when we see him on the big screen.

Of course, the chances of Soundwave actually being a cassette player are pretty much zero since kids today don't even know what a cassette is, but that's besides the point.  At least he'll sound right though.
