Looks Like I'm Going To Have To Start Watching Castle

Oh Captain my Captain!

As a huge Nathan Fillion fan, I've known of his ABC series called Castle for some time now, but for one reason or another I haven't gotten around to watching it yet.  However, the show has a new Halloween episode coming up and this picture has leaked to the internet showing us exactly what Nathan's character on the show will be wearing for Halloween.

Hot damn!!!  Even 8 years after Firefly was cancelled, he still looks damned amazing in that uniform.  Wearing that, Nathan Fillion could order me to march to my death and I'd probably follow his commands without a thought otherwise.

Goddamnit, I miss Captain Malcolm Reylonds so much.  Can we get another Serenity movie sometime soon?  Please?!?!?!

Half Life In 60 Seconds

Thanks to my good friend Aaron, I got hooked onto the videogame Half Life 2. So much so that I even went back and played the first game just to get the whole story. If only I had known that this video was out there that could explain not just the original Half Life, but both Half Life and Half Life 2 in just 60 seconds, I could have saved myself hours of time.

I absolutely love this video. From its South Park animation style, to it's cheesy sound effects, to it's entirely too accurate summary of the Half Life story (especially the bit with the man in the suit at the end). This video is a form of nerd perfection.

Here Lies The Ghost of Darth Vader

If I saw this coming at me one dark night in a graveyard, I think I'd pee my pants and then faint.

We all know how Darth Vader died at the end of Return of the Jedi, and how Luke burned his body on the forest moon of Endor. We even saw the ghost of Anakin Skywalker hanging out in the Ewok village during the victory celebration at the end of the film. But what happened after the party ended? What would the ghost of a former dark lord of the sith to kill an eternity of time in the afterlife?

Well, he'd dress up as a ghostly Darth Vader and hang around in graveyards to scare the hell out of people. Duh!

This cool picture was made by one Stephen Hayford, who has a bunch of other fun toy based photos you can see here.

Did You Know October 2nd Was Stan Lee Day?

As far as official public documents go, this one is pretty damn sweet.

One of the many cool things that happened at the 1st Annual Long Beach Comic Con was a ribbon cutting ceremony held at the start of the con on October 2nd.  Stan Lee himself came out to cut the ceremonial ribbion with a big ass pair of scissors, but before he did he was given a great honor indeed.  The county of Los Angeles presented Mr. Lee with a giant certificate and a proclamation was read to the large group of waiting attendees that the County of Los Angeles had declared October 2nd to be Stan Lee Day in honor of Stan's lifetime of work in the comic book and entertainment industries.

I took some photos of this event which were included in the Long Beach Comic Con flickr set, including a picture of Stan Lee holding up the certificate he was given by the City's representative, comic book writer Jeff Loeb.  Above is a nice close up of the certificate that has been provided by the good folks over at The Hero Initiative.  If you'd like to see a large scale, readable copy of the certificate, GO HERE.

Here's the pic I took of Stan holding up the certificate.

I'd just like to say that it's always damned cool seeing comic creators getting the respect they deserve, especially a legend like Stan "The Man" Lee.  Good job Los Angeles.  You've done an awesome thing here, and that certificate looks positively badass!

Random Awesomeness

The Mushroom Kingdom has never looked so tasty.

Maybe it's just because I'm on a diet right now, but these Mario Cupcakes look so incredible and so tasty.  Even the carnivorous Piranha Plant looks invitingly edible.

Dungeons & Dragons Online Is Free To Play

I really hope that guy is weilding a Hackmaster +12, otherwise he's royally screwed.

This is pretty damned sweet.  Dungeons & Dragons Online, basically the D&D version of World Of Warcraft, is a game that launched a few years ago.  Just like every other MMORPG (I'm assuming I don't have to define that here, we're all geeks and should know what that means) out there, there was a $15 monthly fee to play the game.  I'm a big fan of D&D, but I'm also a cheap bastard and refuse to pay $15 a month to play any game online.  I'm already paying my $5 a month for my Xbox Live Gold Account, that's enough online gaming for me.  I've always been intruiged by MMO's though and have wanted to play one, if only it wasn't for that damned fee.

Well, now's my chance . . . and yours too.  Somehow I missed this bit of news when it was announced, but as of last September, D&D Online is now a free MMO.  You can download the game for free from their website at www.DDO.com and can hop online and play it for free as well.  No monthly fees.

Of course, there is a bit of a catch.  The free account has some limited options in regards to content and available starting character classes and races and whatnot, but you now have the option of purchasing additional content above the base free level whenever you want to by visiting the DDO shop or by earning credits by playing the game itself.  There's still a monthly fee account you can opt into playing that comes with some major bonuses, but if you're like me and just want to give the game a try before you decide to spend any money on it, this is a good way to do it.

I created an account last night and got through the character creation process as well as the tutorial dungeon.  It totally feels like you're playing a 3.5 version of D&D.  The game even has a gamemaster kind of guy who will narrate what you're doing.  It's pretty sweet.  I'm still learning the basics, but I'll definitely be playing this game some more.

If you see a Rogue running around in the game by the name of Praedo Honoris, that'll be me.

Super Friends - Family Guy Style

I'm not the biggest fan of the show Family Guy. Sure, they have some great jokes and episodes every now and then, but they've also got a lot of stupid stuff I just don't get or don't care for. However, I will fully recognize that Seth Macfarlane and his people are capable of churning out something truly awesome every once in a while like the Star Trek: The Next Generation cast reunion episode.

This is another one of those moments. They recreated the full intro to the classic Super Friends cartoon show, shot for shot, using characters from their show. The video above is a side by side comparison of the two. The level of detail the Family Guy creators put into this is amazing, and the finished product is one of the coolest animated tributes I've seen in a while.

Well done Family Guy crew. Well done indeed.
