Fox's X-Men Cartoon Series Is Finally Coming To DVD
The 90's were sort of a new golden age for superhero cartoon shows. After Transformers and GI Joe ended their run in the early 90's, the Fox network came out of nowhere with two awesome cartoon shows based on Marvel comics titles. Those shows were Spider-man and the X-Men.
Long before Pokemon reared it's head and suddenly every Marvel cartoon show suddenly had to be anime inspired, the X-Men cartoon series ran for a number of years and was suprisingly faithful to its comic roots. Tons of character cameos filled the show on a regular basis and a number of story arcs from the comics were adapted to television including Days of Future Past and the Dark Phoenix saga.
Admittedly, the animation quality wasn't perfect and the voice work left a little to be desired, but on the whole the show was as faithful an adaptation of the X-Men that we had ever seen in either TV or movies at that point. And now it's finally coming to DVD. No specific release date has been set yet, but the first two volumes of the series have been announced. Each volume will have two discs and will contain 16 episodes each for a total of 32 episodes between the two volumes. The episodes will be presented in chronologial order and will cost around $24 each.
