The Good: Firefly on Blu-ray
Why It's Good: It's the greatest space western series of all time. Both unique and cleverly written, Joss Whedon's little show about a bunch of outcasts trying to make a living on the outer edge of civilized space is a true gem of sci-fi greatness. It's a damn shame what Fox did to this series. We should have gotten more than just the one season from this show, but at least we have the 13 glorious episodes from this box set and the movie Serenity to be thankful for. And now the series is available on Blu-ray, so you can watch the crew outrun the Reavers in glorious high def.
The Badass: The Clone Wars
Why It's Badass: While my initial impressions of Clone Wars wasn't entirely positive, I must admit that after having seen it twice and now having seen a few other episodes from the Clone Wars series, the show's not all that bad. It's far superior to the previous Star Wars animated series' (Droids and Ewoks). It's not perfect, it's definitely kiddish, but it does manage to feel like Star Wars should. If you don't take it too seriously and you just watch it for the good action scenes and the pretty graphics, the Clone Wars can be a lot of fun.
The Awesome: Hellboy II - The Golden Army
Why It's Awesome: When I first saw the original Hellboy film, I was blown away. I'd never read the comics, so I didn't know what to expect going in, but I was amazed at the great characters, wonderful writing and awesome action of the film. I was an instant fan and have been eagerly anticipating a sequel for a long time. The wait, thankfully, proved to be worth it. Hellboy II has everything a good sequel should have. It has all of the great parts from the first film plus a ton of cool new stuff as well. New characters, new settings, new dangers. But at no point does the film forget it's core characters, or the things that make them tick. Then add to all of that the stunning visual style of Guillermo Del Toro, and a comic film of pure beauty emerges.
