One of the many cool things that happened at the 1st Annual Long Beach Comic Con was a ribbon cutting ceremony held at the start of the con on October 2nd. Stan Lee himself came out to cut the ceremonial ribbion with a big ass pair of scissors, but before he did he was given a great honor indeed. The county of Los Angeles presented Mr. Lee with a giant certificate and a proclamation was read to the large group of waiting attendees that the County of Los Angeles had declared October 2nd to be Stan Lee Day in honor of Stan's lifetime of work in the comic book and entertainment industries.
I took some photos of this event which were included in the Long Beach Comic Con flickr set, including a picture of Stan Lee holding up the certificate he was given by the City's representative, comic book writer Jeff Loeb. I'd just like to say that it's always damned cool seeing comic creators getting the respect they deserve, especially a legend like Stan "The Man" Lee. Good job Los Angeles. You've done an awesome thing here, and that certificate looks positively badass!
