This American Life Is Coming To A Theater Near You

tal

Those of you who know me know I'm a huge fan of NPR's radio show This American Life (TAL).  Each week, the creators of TAL put on an hour of some of the most entertaining and informative programming to be found anywhere, be it radio, TV or movies.

A while back they did a live show in a theater in New York that was beamed via Satellite to movie theaters all across the country.  The show was a sort of mix of their usual radio show plus some of the stuff they do for their TV show on Showtime as well as a little Q&A with listeners.  It was a really fun event and I've been hoping since then that they would do something similar again.

Well, my hoping has paid off, because the crew from TAL are at it again.  On Thursday, April 23rd, they are doing another live show that will be sent out to theaters across America.  And this time they've got some amazing special guests, including geek favorite Joss Whedon.

Find out everything you need to know about the show here.

Ira Glass will host an actual episode of the radio program, performed onstage by some of our favorite contributors. Dan Savage, Starlee Kine, and Mike Birbiglia will tell stories. David Rakoff and Dave Hill will conduct a ‘special investigation.’ Plus a new cartoon by Chris Ware, additional visuals by Arthur Jones, and a very special appearance by Joss Whedon, creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer! The performance will last around two hours. We’re going to capture the whole thing with a bunch of HD cameras, and send it live* to movie theatres all over the country.

It’s gonna be a fun night. We hope you’ll come.

One night only. Thursday, April 23rd. In select movie theatres and performing arts centers nationwide.

Having been to their previous event, I can attest that this will be two hours of entertainment like none other. And since its live, if you miss it, you've missed it forever.  So be sure to get your tickets early.  I'll be attending the screening at the Irvine Spectrum in Irvine, Ca.

Maybe I'll see some of you there.
