Hello,

 

Man, comics are awesome. Paul Dini is writing the new Batman spin-off series Gotham City Sirens and it is FUCKAWESOME! The series portrays Catwoman, Poison Ivy, and Harley Quinn as roommates in a post-original Batman Gotham and the adventures that follow. I'm telling you life doesn't get any better than this. Issue 4 of the series came out this Wednesday.

So Hush (the Batman villain other wise known as surgeon Tommy Elliot) got reconstructive surgery to look just like Bruce Wayne. i think I mentioned this in a previous post. Anyway, the issue starts out with Bruce Wayne (actually Hush) being seen out on the town with a plain clothes Harley Quinn. It's clear that Hush plans upon gaining Harley's trust to catch her at a weak point and kill her, forever scaring the name of Bruce Wayne with the public. Harley, it's clear just thinks that if she can "date" Bruce Wayne she can be closer to loads of money. 

 

When the media covers the two out on the town together it attracts the attention of none other than the Joker. The Joker is not amused and decides to once and for all kill Harley Quinn.

 

Catwoman and Ivy know that Bruce is really Hush so they know that Harley is in danger. Ivy begins to look around Gotham by communicating with all the city's plants. I love that she can do that. They track down Harley and show up at roughly the same time the Joker does intent on killing Harley. It's about a minute before this that Harley decides maybe Bruce it's exactly what she's looking for. With Dick, Tim and Dayman she'd be another "soccer mom" and that's not her style.

 

A fight between the Joker's thugs, Harley, Ivy, Catwoman and Hush breaks out underneath the Joker's blimp. Catwoman attempts to take out Hush but the cops show so her and Ivy have to make off with Harley. Hush guns down the Joker blimp (an action he sees as permissible as Bruce Wayne, seeing as the media would dub him a hero).

 

The issue ends with the girls at home explaining to Harley how close she came to death and that Bruce Wayne isn't Bruce Wayne and is in fact Hush. The girls also try to explain to Harley that Joker is bad news too, but of course Harley sees the Joker trying to kill her as Jealously. So if he's Jealous that must mean he still loves her. It's then that the Joker blows up their apartment.

 

The issue is to be continued.

Clone Wars Season Two Starts Tonight

 

 

It's been a goodly long while, but the new season of The Clone Wars starts tonight (October 2nd) on Cartoon Network. 

 

While the first season of Clone Wars was a little uneven at times, overall I was really happy with it.  For every really crappy episode that was made, there was at least one or two really good ones as well.  On the whole, I am happy we have this series to enjoy and am greatly looking forward to the second season beginning, especially since this season looks to be aiming for a darker tone than the first one had.  It's being titled Rise of the Bounty Hunters and it will be featuring the new character Cad Bane along with a whole host of evil mercenaries that will be giving the Jedi and the Republic all sorts of problems.

 

Maybe Luscasfilm realized that the core audience of the show was the 18 and up crowd, not the 8 to 15 audience they were waiting for, and are altering the show a bit to cater more to the adult crowd.  I really hope that's what's happening.  Either way though, I'll be watching the show this weekend and am greatly looking forward to more weekly installments of Star Wars goodness.

I Didn't Know Bowser's Castle Had Internet Access

 

 

Apparently it does though, because Princess Peach was able to update her facebook status from there while trapped in one of Bowser's dungeon cells after having been kidnapped for the 487th time.

 

Mario, as you can see, is obviously annoyed by this.  Can you blame him really?  I'd be pissed off too if my girlfriend was constantly being kidnapped over and over again by the same guy.  At what point do you just say, "fuck it" and let the giant lizard keep her? 

 

Mario's a more patient man than I am.  That's all I'm saying.

You Kill Vampires, You Don't Date Them!

 

 

I'm not really a big fan of G4's Attack of the Show.  There's no one thing that really makes me dislike it, but the show has just never really piqued my interests very much.  It also doesn't help much I suppose that I really can't stand the show's co-host Olivia Munn.  There's just something about that woman that bugs me.  I think it's the fact that I see her as a non-nerd who is hosting a nerd show, and I find that thought just plain wrong. She's only there as eye candy because she's pretty, not because she's a huge gamer or sci-fi fan or something like that.  She's no Morgan Webb, let's just say that.

 

Regardless of my usual thoughts about Attack of the Show though, I will give full credit where credit is due here.  Their spoof of Twilight is really damned funny, and is very well made.  I was amused enough by the beginning of the clip with the straight up parody of one of the more annoying scenes from the Twilight film, but when the show's hosts arrive on the scene, it goes straight to comedy gold.

 

Well done Attack of the Show.  I tip my hat to thee.

It's Already October? Hell Yeah!!!

 

I absolutely LOVE the month of October.  The weather starts changing, we get that crisp autumn breeze going and the leaves turn colors and fall off the trees which makes everything start to look a little dead and creepy.  And then, at the end of the month, the single greatest Holiday of the year.  Halloween!

 

As you all know, I'm a huge nerd for Halloween stuff, so for the next month you can expect Geek-tastic to be inundated with Halloween related or themed posts.  We'll be talking about horror films, cool halloween costumes, Vampires (not the sparkling variety), werewolves, zombies and more.  You know, all the good stuf.

 

TO get things started, I thought I'd share this wonderful collection of Star Wars themed pumpkins.  Anything mixing halloween and nerdiness needs to be shared with everyone.  I hope you like them, there's plenty more where this came from.

John Lasseter Explains The Origins Of Buzz Lightyear

 

 

Ok, so the second half of this video clip is basically just John Lasseter (the head of Pixar and Disney Animation) trying to get people to buy the newly redesigned Buzz Lightyear action figure, but the first half of the video is pretty amazing.  Lasseter discusses the early origins of where the character of Buzz Lightyear came from and how the he developed over time.  Did you know that GI Joe was an influence in Buzz's creation?  I didn't.

 

Lasseter also explains where the name Buzz Lightyear comes from, and being the big space and science nerd I am, I think it's really awesome where he gets his first name from.  Props to Pixar for being so damned awesome on such a consistent basis.

First Look At The Green Hornet

 

Seen here is actor Seth Rogen in his Green Hornet costume, on the set of his new film.  I have to say, he looks pretty good in the costume.  He's definitely slimmed down a lot for this role, and the outfits for both the Green Hornet and his sidekick Kato look to be incredibly faithful to the original TV show's costumes.

 

I remember a lot of people complaining when Rogen was cast as the Hornet, but I honestly don't think this looks bad at all.  Maybe with any luck, the film will actually be pretty good.
