New Geek DVD Day - 08/04/09
The Good: Mutant Chronicles
Why It's Good: Mutant Chronicles is a sci-fi film about a war between humans and vampire/zombie/monster things. It takes place in the future, but somehow looks like World War One. It has an amazing cast featuring people like John Malkovich, Thomas Jane and Ron Pearlman. Reviews of the film haven't been all that great though, and the film was never officially released in theaters on a wide scale. Chances are the film sucks balls, but it could also just as possibly be a totally fun and cheesy action film. I'm not sure yet, I haven't seen it but I want to.
The Badass: Flight of the Conchords - Season 2
Why It's Badass: Bret, Jermaine and Murray are back for yet another season of akward and silent humor mixed with great and funny songs. The second season wasn't as good overall as the First was in my opinion, but that's not to say the show didn't have it's major selling points. The video for Too Many Dicks On The Dance Floor alone makes this set worth buying.
The Awesome: Big Trouble In Little China (Blu-ray)
Why It's Awesome: There's entirely too much awesome going on in this film for any description I write to do it any justice. You've got Kurt Russell as the loud mouthed hero Jack Burton whose sidekick is actually a better fighter than he is, kung-fu fights going on all over San Francisco, beautiful women who have been kidnapped and need rescuing, an immortal Chinese badass who appears in the film as both a young and vibrant leader and a crippled wheelchair bound old man at the same time, a giant retarded looking Bigfoot-ish monster, a beholder from D&D, a guy whose superpower is the ability to inflate himself until he explodes, jumping swordfights, some sort of mystical swordfighting game that is palyed by shooting a laser from your hands and a dude who can shoot lightning from his arms. And that's not even all of it.
If ever there was a film screaming for a sequel, it's Big Trouble in Little China. But if they didn't bring back Kurt Russell to play Jack Burton, it would be a crime punishable by death.
