New Geek DVD Day - 12/2/08

The GoodThe Chronicles of Narnia - Prince Caspian

Why It's Good:  Disney's continuation of C.S. Lewis' famous series of fantasy novels.  It's like Lord of the Rings...for kids.  There's lots of fantasy creatures and many large scale battle scenes, which are always pluses in the films I like to watch.

The BadassWanted

Why It's Badass:  Very loosely based on the comic series by the same name, this story of a group of super assassins makes for a fun popcorn film.  It's not going to make you think too much.  Just sit back, enjoy the pretty explosions and stare at Angelina Jolie's tits.  Afterall, that's what the film is about really, isn't it?  Just forget the fact that the whole thing is a Matrix ripoff in the first place and everything will be fine.

Think about it, a random schmo nobody meets a really hot woman who then takes him to see a mysterious black man who then explains to him he's the chosen one they need to defeat a great evil.  What follows are lots of fight scenes and lot's of slow motion "bullet time" special effects.

What movie am I describing there?  Wanted or The Matrix?  Yeah, I can't tell either.

The Awesome: The X-Files - I Want To Believe

Why It's Awesome: It's the first new piece of the X-Files we've gotten to watch in a goodly number of years. Yeah, so it could have been better. The plot would have made for a really good episode back in the day, but as a movie it came off lacking. Whatever. Also, there were no aliens whatsoever and the film had nothing to contribute to the overall mythology of the X-Files as a whole. But at the end of the day, I'm still glad it was made. I would have rather gotten to see it than have nothing come out at all. So all that really matters at the end of the day was that we got to see Mulder and Scully together again on screen. If nothing else, that's something. If you're at all a fan of the show, or you ever were, it's worth watching.
