This Has The Ability To Either Be Amazingly Awesome Or God Awful Atrocious

And chances are it's going to be the latter of those two.  Robotech, arguably the greatest Anime series of all time, is being adapted into a live action movie.

Alfred Gough and Miles Millar have been drafted to pen "Robotech," Warner Bros.' adaptation of the anime classic.

Akiva Goldsman and Chuck Roven are producing with Tobey Maguire and Drew Crevello.

For anyone who is a fan of Robotech, this is rather frightening news.  While on the one hand it's great to hear that the show will be made into live action awesomeness, the announcement that it will be Gough and Millar writing it pretty much guarantees it's going to suck.  Don't believe me?  Let's just take a look at the other properties this dynamic duo of crap-tastic writing has brought us:

  • Smallville

  • The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor

  • Herbie: Fully Loaded

  • Shanghai Knights

  • Lethal Weapon 4

  • Time Cop

That's a whole lot of sucky for a list so short.  Now, to be fair these guys also wrote the screenplay for Spider-man 2, which I think was by far the best film in the trilogy.  Technically, they have the ability to write a decent film for the amazing story that is Robotech, but given their track record I doubt it.  Most likely we're going to be treated to an obnoxious americanized version of a Japanese classic, much like what is currently happening to the Dragonball Z movie.

All I know is, if the movie doesn't have Max Sterling with bright green hair, then it can go to hell for all I care.
