The Good: Torchwood: Season 2
Why It's good: Three words. Captain...Jack...Harkness. The single greatest side character to come out of the new Dr. Who series gets to star in his own show. The omni-sexual, time travelling man who cannot be killed is amazing fun to watch. Sure, the show can be a little inconsistent sometimes and some of the writing can be a bit wonky, but the good outweighs the bad here. The show is sort of like a team based version of the x-files where each week they have to save the world from some big scary alien thing destroying the world as we know it. That is, of course, when they're not busy sleeping with each other or dying (which happens a lot).
The Badass: Speed Racer
Why It's Badass: Say what you want about the Speed Racer film, but I think it's rad. I think it failed at the box office because audiences were expecting an Americanized big budget version of the TV show, but what they got was a big budget film that was 100% faithful to the wackyness and overall sillyness that was a 1960's Japanese cartoon show. The film is like a giant piece of eye candy, with plot thrown in only to make the spectacle of the car races have some context. That's really all the show was too. If you walk into this film only wanting a cheesy, fun film then you won't be disappointed. Just don't take it to seriously. If you do, then you're missing the point entirely.
The Awesome: Avatar - The Last Airbender: Book 3 - Fire
Why It's Awesome: This is hands down the single best cartoon show of the last decade. Not since the original Batman Animated Series has a series so well walked the line of being a great kids show while at the same time having enough depth to make it equally entertaining for adults. The cast of characters are incredibly well designed and complicated, the art design in the show is astounding, and the originality of the series makes it an incredibly unique gem to watch. Book 3 is the final chapter in the saga of young Aang, the last of the Air Nomads. He must finally face down Fire Lord Ozai (who is voiced by Mark Hamill) to save the world from the evil Fire Nation Army. The final battle, which takes place over four episodes, is nothing short of epic. If you haven't watched Avatar yet, you need to.
